Sean Combs’ Release Date Changes Again After Prison Fight

Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently listed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons for release on February 20, 2028, following several previous projected dates.

The latest change came after a reported prison altercation, but officials have not explained why the date changed, so directly blaming the fight would go beyond confirmed facts.

Sean Combs Is Serving a 50-Month Sentence

Sean Combs is serving a 50-month federal sentence after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. A jury acquitted him of the more serious sex-trafficking and racketeering-conspiracy charges brought during his federal trial. His attorneys continue appealing both the conviction and sentence.

Sean Combs is incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey. His lawyers had requested the facility partly because it would allow easier family visitation and access to rehabilitation programs. Roughly 14 months Combs previously spent in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center counted toward his federal sentence.

Sean Combs’ Release Date Changed Repeatedly

Sean Combs has had several projected release dates appear in federal records, including April 15, April 25, June 4 and February 23, 2028. The Bureau of Prisons then listed February 20, 2028. PEOPLE reported that neither prison officials nor Combs’ legal team provided an explanation for the repeated adjustments.

Sean Combs Was Reportedly in a Prison Fight

Sean Combs was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with another inmate in July 2026. According to reports cited by PEOPLE, prison staff quickly separated the two men and Combs was subsequently placed in solitary confinement. The other inmate was not publicly identified, and official details about exactly what occurred remain limited.

Sean Combs’ Fight Did Not Officially Change Release

Sean Combs’ latest release-date adjustment happened after the reported fight, creating an obvious connection in headlines. However, the Bureau of Prisons has not stated that the altercation caused his projected release to move. That distinction matters because federal release calculations can change for several reasons, including program participation, credits and administrative adjustments.

Sean Combs Is Participating in Rehabilitation

Sean Combs is participating in a federal drug-abuse rehabilitation program at Fort Dix. PEOPLE notes that successful participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program can potentially reduce an eligible prisoner’s sentence by up to a year. Combs said at sentencing that he had become sober during incarceration, although his broader legal challenges remain ongoing.

As of August 2026, Sean Combs’ listed projected release date is February 20, 2028. That date could still change again because federal release projections are not necessarily permanent. The careful conclusion is therefore that his date shifted following a turbulent period in prison—not that officials punished him by extending his sentence because of the reported fight.
