Leonardo DiCaprio’s wealth has been directed into expensive homes, environmental projects, charitable grants and sustainability-focused businesses.
Exact net-worth figures published online are estimates, not audited facts. A more accurate picture comes from documented property transactions, announced donations and publicly reported investments rather than claims about what he supposedly owns.
A Hollywood Compound
DiCaprio began building his Hollywood Hills compound during the 1990s. Architectural Digest reports that he paid a combined $4 million for two neighboring properties, including one previously owned by Madonna. In 2022, he reportedly spent another $10.5 million on a nearby mansion, expanding the compound to four properties across five lots. The site has been used as a private home and entertainment space.
Malibu by the Ocean
After Titanic, DiCaprio bought an oceanfront Malibu bungalow for $1.775 million in 1998. He later sold it for around $10 million. In 2017, he made another major Malibu purchase, paying a reported $23 million for a Paradise Cove property. In 2008, DiCaprio reportedly paid $3.67 million for an apartment in an environmentally designed Battery Park building. A Palm Springs Retreat
DiCaprio purchased the former Dinah Shore estate in Palm Springs for $5.2 million in 2014. One of his most ambitious purchases was Blackadore Caye, a 104-acre island off Belize acquired for a reported $1.75 million in 2005. It should therefore be described as a proposed project, not a completed eco-resort.

Re:wild states that his philanthropic efforts have provided more than $100 million in grants supporting climate action, wildlife, oceans, clean water and Indigenous communities. He also helped launch America’s Food Fund during the COVID-19 pandemic, which raised money for hunger-relief organizations.
Investing in Greener Businesses
Publicly reported investments have included plant-based food, cultivated meat, renewable energy and sustainable materials companies. DiCaprio has backed businesses such as Beyond Meat, Califia Farms and ventures developing alternatives to conventional meat and leather. The amounts of many individual investments remain private.
