Emilio Estevez reprised Gordon Bombay in Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers in 2021. The older character had become disappointed and disconnected from hockey, allowing Estevez to revisit the role with more emotional weight. Emilio Estevez did not return for the second season of Game Changers. Reports connected his exit with a vaccination requirement, while Estevez said the main issues were contracts and creative differences and disclosed that he had experienced long COVID.
