Will Smith’s acting career is not over. Amazon MGM Studios announced in May 2026 that he will lead Supermax, an action thriller directed by David Gordon Green for Prime Video. Smith will also produce the project through his company, Westbrook.
His career has moved more slowly since he struck Chris Rock during the 2022 Academy Awards, but Hollywood has not stopped hiring him. A successful Bad Boys sequel, new streaming work and several developing projects show a cautious rebuild rather than a complete industry rejection.
Will Smith Still Faces Oscars Consequences
Smith resigned from the Academy and received a 10-year ban from attending its events after the 2022 incident. He publicly apologized to Rock and described his behavior as unacceptable. The punishment affected his relationship with the Oscars, but it did not legally prevent studios, streaming services or producers from employing him.

Apple released Emancipation in December 2022, making it Smith’s first major film after the Oscars controversy. The historical drama received a limited theatrical run before streaming on Apple TV+. Its awards campaign was far quieter than the campaign for King Richard, showing that Smith’s immediate return came under unusually difficult publicity conditions.

Smith remains attached to an I Am Legend sequel with Michael B. Jordan. The developing story is expected to follow the alternate ending in which Smith’s Robert Neville survived. Smith’s Netflix film Fast and Loose experienced delays and lost director Michael Bay over reported creative differences. John Swab was later hired to direct, showing that the project had not been abandoned. Will Smith’s Comeback Remains Uneven
Hollywood’s clearest message is not that Smith’s career has ended. He remains employable, produces his own projects and can still attract audiences through established franchises.
